NFC West Preview.

NFC WEST:

Best Division In Football.

WINNERS – SEATTLE SEAHAWKS:

Off the bat let me say that in my opinion this is best and most stacked division in all of Football so picking a team to win the division and subsequently one to finish last was no east feat but I’ve gone with the Seahawks and It came down to one man, Russell Wilson. There is no other QB in this division that can do what he can, there might be another one in the Conference who can do what he can truth be told and in a season where I can see every team in this division taking wins from each  other I trust Russ to pull out the couple extra wins necessary to clinch the division, If his supporting cast can stay healthy, guys like Chris Carson, Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are all he needs to win double figure games and with a defense which has some added pieces for 2020, most notably Jamal Adams who came over in a huge trade with the Jets, this is a team ready to put together a shot at getting back to the big show.

PREDICTION: 12-4

BEST CASE: 13-3

WORST CASE: 8-8

2ND PLACE – SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS:

Super Bowl hangovers are real and I expect the Niners to have a minor one this season although with the additions of Trent Williams coming over from Washington to protect Jimmy Garoppolo and help HC Kyle Shanahan spring even more explosive running plays for his Backs and Javon Kinlaw who was taken by the Niners in the first round to replace DeForest Buckner who was traded to the Colts, I’m fully prepared to be wrong and the Niners to go back to back in the division but what if defenses who now have an extra year’s worth of tape on this offense are better at shutting down the Shanahan run plays and what if Kinlaw needs some time adjusting to the NFL? It’s these questions which make me think maybe they take a small step back this year.

PREDICTION: 11-5

BEST CASE: 13-3

WORST CASE: 9-7

3rd PLACE – Arizona Cardinals:

This is going to get similar hate to the Giants over Eagles take but I’m high on the Cardinals this year and going forward if they keep building like this. I loved their off-season, stealing DeAndre Hopkins from the Houston Texans for pennies on the dollar, adding severely underrated Defensive Tackle, Jordan Phillips from Buffalo and picking up my absolute man crush in the draft, Isaiah Simmons. Kyler Murray looked like a superstar in his first season under centre for the Cards and Kilff Kingsbury has all the makings of following in the footsteps of fellow NFC West coaches, Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay in being the next young offensive HC to take his team to a Super Bowl.. maybe not this year though.. my one worry is the Offensive Line, it still needs work but Kyler Murray needs to take some responsibility and stop scrambling into Sacks, if he takes a step forward in that regard this season the O-Line will thank him. On Defense they’re not there yet but they’re working on it, the aforementioned Isaiah Simmons is a STUD who can line anywhere from EDGE to Free Safety, he can rush the passer, stop the run and run with pass catchers in coverage, he is a rare, rare beast. Chandler Jones remains a premier Pass Rusher in this league and Jordan Phillips can cause havoc on the inside and with Patrick Peterson and Budda Baker in the secondary this is an underrated Defense. I’m buying stock in the Arizona Cardinals.

PREDICTION: 8-8

BEST CASE: 7-9

WORST CASE: 6-10

4th PLACE – LOS ANGELES RAMS:

No one in LA is going to like me once they’ve read this, Chargers to bottom out in the AFC West and the Rams finishing bottom of the barrel here. It’s not that I’m low on the Rams it’s just I think with sub par QB play, old Offensive Line and lack of elite defensive talent outside of Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey (albeit arguably the two best players at their position in the league, especially Donald who is unquestionably the best Defensive Tackle in football) how are they going to stop the high powered offense’s in this division not to mention they play the Buccs and Cowboys this year too. On offense McVay is still a boy wonder but how long can his play calling make up for the inefficiency of his QB? They have a good collection of pass catchers but this offense needs a running back who can make things happen and the Rams will be relying on rookie RB, Cam Akers to be that guy. Again, this is the best division in football and someone has to finish in last place, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Rams and the Cardinals reversed but I’m sticking to my guns and calling an unexpected losing season for the Rams.

PREDICTION: 7-9

BEST CASE: 9-7

WORST CASE: 7-9
