The Matt Rhule era starts at home as the Panthers welcomes the newly minted Las Vegas Raiders Raiders to Charlotte. The Panthers are going to be a surprise on opening day, without any pre-season to see what Offensive Co-Ordinator Joe Brady has planned for this offense and sure he had a fantastic season with the LSU Tigers last year winning the National Championship with a offense that put points up for fun but this isn’t the SEC anymore this is the NFL and although I’m excited for it I’ve got to see it before I believe it. On the other side of the ball it’s all change for the Panther D, drafting 7 (!) defensive players on that side of the ball means time is needed for this unit to gel, the D-Line has some talent in name at least with Kawann Short and Brian Burns being joined by 2020 draft selections Derrick Brown and Yetur Gross-Matos, if the latter two hit the ground running it would give the Panthers a fearsome defensive line. Until we see what the Panthers do on both sides of the ball it’s a bit of a guessing game but two things are for sure; Christian McCaffrey is the best Running Back in Football and will get his and the Panthers need to replace the retired Luke Kuechly if they’re going to fix a run defense that finished 29th in football last year.

The Raiders have added well this offseason, drafting two starting Receivers in Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards and adding tackling machine Cory Littleton in Free Agency should improve a defense which was already stout against the run last season, keeping McCaffrey relatively quiet is a task for even the best run defense though.

Not the easiest game to breakdown as we haven’t seen anything from this new Carolina coaching staff but the fact this Panther defense struggled against the run last year and have lost Linebacker Luke Kuechly makes it hard for me to believe they’ve upgraded in that area so I expect Raider RB Josh Jacobs to get himself in the End Zone today.
