ATLANTA FALCONS @ GREEN BAY PACKERS

The winless Falcons pack their bags and travel to Wisconsin to take on the unbeaten Packers. 0-3 plays 3-0 in this one, surely it only goes one way…

The travelling Falcons have had a horrible start to the season, winless and careless. They’ve thrown away two huge leads over the Cowboys and Bears the last two weeks and just cannot stop anyone on defense, they have allowed the most points per game through 3 weeks in the entire NFL and rank 31st in pass yards allowed per game and across from the tonight is the offense who rank #1 in points scored per game and 6th in pass yards per game. The Falcon offense have no issues moving the ball and putting points on the board ranking 6th in points scored per game and top 3 in passing yards per game but that’s not to say I don’t have any issues with the offense but it’s more to do wit the play calling which is ridiculously aggressive even when they have big leads which is a time when you should be trying to establish the run, eat up as much clock as possible keep the opposing offense off the field for as long as possible.

The Packers are looking good and Aaron Rodgers looks like a man on a mission this season posting 887 passing yards, 9 TD’s and zero interceptions through three weeks and has missed his #1 pass catcher Davante Adams for last weeks game with the Saints and for the majority of their week 2 clash with the Lions too and Rodgers is again without not only Adams tonight but also Allen Lazard who took over that #1 receiver roll with a huge performance against the Saints which puts a lot of pressure on Marquez Valdes-Scantling to step into the roll of primary receiver and also means Robert Tonyan will have to step up to the plate from his TE position and with Aaron Jones being able to be both an effective ball carrier and receiver out of the backfield I more than expect Rodgers to get the job done even with a beaten up receiving core. The defense is pretty middle of the road across the board but through 3 weeks have played the run better than the pass and considering this Atlanta sides MO is to throw it all over the yard the Packers pass D could be in for a long night.

Listen, I’m not taking the Falcons to win a game until they can show me that they can hold on to a lead so I’m certainly not taking them to walk into Lambeau Field and upset the unbeaten Packers but I do expect them to put up points so this should be an exciting watch for the casual at least.

As far as my favourite bets go there’s a few that stand out, of course the over 55.5 match points is tempting when we have to high powered offenses and two mediocre (in fact one is plain awful) defenses but there’s others standing out too and Robert Tonyan who had 5 receptions last week to have over 3.5 receptions i really like, this is a Falcons team who has given up no less than 4 receptions to opposing teams Tight End’s in the first 3 weeks and with the depleted Packer receiving core I expect Tonyan to act more like the WR 2 than the TE here and Tonyan caught every single one of his receptions last week which will only endear him more to Aaron Rodgers. Talking of Aaron Rodgers he has faced the Falcons 9 times including post-season games and on only two occasions has failed to throw for over 275 yards so that number on his U/O line tonight really stands out to me especially as the Falcons have allowed over 300 pass yards to opposing QB’s in all three games to start the year.
