KANSAS CITY CHIEFS @ BUFFALO BILLS

Two division leaders coming off their first losses of the year meet in Western New York as Patrick Mahomes brings his 4-1 Chiefs to Buffalo to take on Josh Allen and his 4-1 Bills.

The Chiefs were dropped from the realm of the undefeated by a fantastic Offensive performance by their divisional rival Raiders in week 5 when what had been a good Chiefs pass Defense was put to the sword by Derek Carr to the tune of nearly 350 yards and 3 TD’s whilst their porous run Defense allowed over 140 yards on the ground and two scores as the Raiders put up 40 points. Patrick Mahomes was a step below his typical brilliant best and threw his first INT of the season this was also the first game of the year Mahomes suffered multiple Sacks in a game with the Raiders dropping him for a loss 3 times. Not that it particularly matters to Patrick Mahomes as he has the ability to torch a combination of the ’85 Bears and ’00 Ravens on his day but this Buffalo pass Defense is a nice unit to be coming up against when looking to bounce back from a slight off day as they just can’t seem to find whatever it was that made them an elite unit last season and are being thrown all over the four weeks, they have also given up lots of yards to Tight Ends this year and Travis Kelce is one of the best in the business, his U/O is at 72.5 yards and on the season has only failed to receive 70 or more yards just once and that was on the opening day. Expect both Mahomes and Kelce to put up numbers tonight.

So the MVP talk got to Josh Allen? Well maybe.. the loss to the Titans was far and away his worst performance of the season and although the first INT wasn’t on him the second one which killed any hope the Bills had of mounting a comeback looked like Allen at his worst and he didn’t see Malcom Butler and threw the ball right into his chest for the pick add this to a couple of throws slightly behind his receivers and trying to force the ball to Stefon Diggs even when double and triple covered and it wasn’t a good night for the 3rd year passer but it wasn’t all bad, his ability to find the target on 3rd down is ridiculously good and his TD strike to TJ Yeldon was a laser right between two DB’s so Bills fans (myself included) can feel at least a little confident that Allen can get back to pre-Titan form but he will need the help of at least some semblance of a running game as this Chiefs run D has been gashed all season long but Brian Daboll’s seeming refusal to run his what once was a dual-threat QB at all leaves a lot for Devin Singletary to do on his own and I for one would like to see Allen use his legs more than we’ve seen him do these last 4 weeks and take advantage of a Kansas City Chief frailty and help the Bills keep their offense on the field for as long as possible as if Josh Allen is on it, Patrick Mahomes can’t be and that can only be a good thing for Buffalo. Now to the unit charged with dealing with the aforementioned Mahomes and its been rough for a Bills Defense who were one of the leagues best last year, their inability to make plays in the secondary has allowed for them to be abused through the air the last 4 weeks and although the boys upfront have been respectable against the run they for the life of them could not keep outside contain against the Titans last week and Ryan Tannehill took full advantage and best believe Mahomes will do exactly the same if things are not improved tonight.

This game has an interesting subplot in that Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Bills Corner Tre’Davious White will always be linked through circumstance as it was Buffalo who traded down from their 10th overall pick to allow the Chiefs to come up and select Mahomes whilst Buffalo took Tre White and then the year after took Josh Allen to be the new face of their franchise and whilst we now know that Mahomes has what it takes to lead his side to the promise land can Josh Allen step up and sling it with the best in the game? (side note: these two are going to be gunning it down the field tonight to try and prove which one has the stronger arm, something thats been argued about around the league for a year) can Tre White intercept the guy so many Bills fans wish they’d taken over him? Guess we’re about to find out…
