Detroit came unbelievably close to getting their first win on the board this season but fell just short last week in an ugly game against Minnesota. Meanwhile, Cincinnati was enjoying a missed FG fest with Green Bay. Hopefully, the Bengals have put their kicking woes behind them as they look to move to 4-2 on the season, whilst the home fans in Detroit will be hoping to see their team’s first ‘W’ of the season.
The Lions are still winless after five weeks, and whilst they’ve remained competitive and not looked completely outmatched, you have to wonder if they have enough quality throughout their team to beat another NFL side. Dan Campbell’s tears after Week 5’s loss to the Vikings were surprising, and his team’s reaction to them in this contest will be interesting to see.
If the Bengals had a competent FG kicker, they’d likely be 4-1 heading into this matchup with a winless Lions side and dreaming of meeting the Baltimore Ravens next week as a 5-1 team. Joe Mixon should return in full capacity for this game after being on a snap-count last week, and his presence is important to the Bengals offense firing properly, as is Ja’Marr Chase’s. The rookie WR has 5 TDs in 5 games so far in his first year and is now up against the NFL’s worst secondary in coverage against receivers. I expect another score for the LSU made phenom against the Lions. On defense, tackle making machine Logan Wilson should be in for a busy day. The Wyoming product has 7 or more combined tackles and assists in every game this season and, against a Lions offense that looks to utilise receivers out of the backfield and the short passing game, he should have a lot of the game played in front of him.
