DETROIT LIONS @ LOS ANGELES RAMS

DOUBLE REVENGE GAME!! Both Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford will face off against the teams they played QB for last year! Stafford will, of course, feel a lot better about being traded to the Super Bowl contending Rams than Goff does about being shipped to the #1 overall pick hunting Lions, but don’t ruin my narrative! Can the Lions pull off a huge shock and their first win of the season, or will Sean McVay unleash his full arsenal of scoring plays to put an exclamation point on being right to give up multiple first-round picks and his former QB for Matt Stafford?

Detroit is still winless, and I don’t expect that to change today. They’re overmatched here in every department and being on the road only makes it more of a challenge. Jared Goff will be dying to show his former teammates and coaches that he’s every bit as good as their new gun-slinger, but I’m going to be the one to tell you that isn’t the case. Watch how Detroit style their passing game, with slot receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, running back DeAndre Swift and TE T.J. Hockenson to give Goff plenty of short distance targets, allowing him to get the ball out quickly and not have to throw the ball deep down the field often. Compare this with the big-play ability of Matt Stafford, and you’ll realise why the Rams made the change at QB.

Cooper Kupp is in some unbelievable form, with 90 or more receiving yards in five of six games this year (three 100+ yard games) and seven touchdowns on the year. Kupp is making an argument to be in the early discussions for OPOY. His connection with Matthew Stafford, honed in the offseason, looks as if they’ve been playing together for years and is a big part of why the Rams have started so hot. Detroit’s defense is graded dead last in coverage vs receivers, according to PFF, so quite how they’re going to cover arguably the hottest WR in the game right now is anybody’s guess.
