The best division in football gets it’s first intra-divisional game and its last years beaten Super Bowl finalists at home against the young (except for Larry Fitzgerald) and exciting Arizona Cardinals. Last year the Cardinals really struggles to defend the pass finishing the year 31st against the pass on the year and it worries me that they didn’t really do anything on the backend to fix that but they did do something to try and fix their ineptitude to defend against Tight Ends, adding Isaiah Simmons in the draft, a player who has the ability to line up in multiple positions on the defense and run with TE’s, his matchup today with George Kittle is something I’m looking forward to seeing. On offense, big off-season acquisition DeAndre Hopkins will have all eyes on him and will hope Kyler Murray has enough time to get him the ball as that Niners D-Line was dominant last season whilst the Cardinals O-Line allowed 50 (!) Sacks last year although some of those were on Kyler Murray and not his line.
The Niners look to go one step further this year and actually hoist the Lombardi when February comes and the addition of Left Tackle, Trent Williams will help a run game which really doesn’t need any more help! On defense they replaced the traded DeForest Buckner with Javon Kinlaw and I’m looking forward to seeing how he helps this Niner team against the run as that was their weakest area on defense last year and the Cardinals had a top 10 rush offense last year so that’s a matchup to watch.
I’m going with the Niners in this one but I’m high on the Cardinals and expect them to keep it close here, I’m excited to see Simmons on the defense and if this Niner D can stop Kenyan Drake and Kyler Murray.
