The first big test of the Brady-less Patriot era sees Cam Newton and the Patriots head to the Pacific North West for a showdown with the 1-0 Seattle Seahawks and I’m not sure I like their chances.
The Patriots moved the ball well on the ground against Miami but that looks to be a real strength v weakness matchup that they wont have here, the Seahawks were pretty good against the run vs Atlanta keeping them to under 75 yards on the ground but Atlanta are more of a pass offense so this will be a bigger challenge for them. I’m interested to see how the Patriots defense which has lost a lot of pieces this year deals with this ‘Hawks offense which seems more inclined to let Russell Wilson throw the ball more and when you’ve got a top 3 QB that’s exactly what you should do! I’m excited to see a potential DK Metcalf vs Stephon Gilmore battle and the risk of him and Tyler Lockett streaking up the field will mean the Patriots cant sell out to stop the run and Chris Carson can potentially take advantage of that.
I’m really looking forward to the chess match I expect to see from Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll but ultimately I just think these two teams are in different stages and this is a Seattle team who are ready to win now whilst this Patriot team is on the way out, It’s always hard going against Belichick but sooner rather than later the Jimmy’s and Joe’s will beat your X’s & O’s and that’s the case I think here.
