Two teams coming off week 1 L’s match up here and I’m not so sure this is the forgone conclusion some think it is.
The Jets looked horrid on offense for most of their week 1 matchup with the Bills, Sam Darnold couldn’t get the offense going against a stout Bills pass defense and it took a couple injuries on the Bills D for him to finally garner some success, the losses of Le’Veon Bell and Jamieson Crowder hurt a team who are already underpowered on offense.. talking of underpowered offenses takes us nicely to the San Francisco 49ers who were already without #1 WR Deebo Samuel have now lost their biggest weapon in George Kittle for this game and that just leads me to ask the question “Who are Sam Darnold and Jimmy G going to throw the ball too?”
The Niners are at least able to run the ball more often than not and although a stout Jets run D wont make that easy, I expect Kyle Shanahan to have enough in his play calling locker to get the ball moving on the ground, the Niners also have the advantage in their backs being able to operate as receivers out of the backfield, look for Raheem Mostert and JerickMcKinnon to be targeted in the passing game to go along with their rock toting duties. If the Jets had anything other than Chris Herndon in the pass catching department and a starting RB who wasn’t 50 years old I’d really like them for an upset here as their defense matches up well with what the Niners want to do on offense and the lack of weapons in the pass game would make it easier for the Jets to dial in to the run which they might still do but I just don’t know how the Jets manage to put enough points on the board to stay with last years beaten Super Bowl finalists.
Give me the Niners in an ugly game.
