We’ve got a TNF battle of two 3-1 teams trending in very different directions as Tom Brady brings the Buccaneers to the Windy City to face Nick Foles and the Bears… Have those two played each other before?
Tom Brady finally broke out as a Buc in their week 4 win over the Chargers throwing for 5 TD’s and over 350 yards and that must be worrying not only for the Bears but for the entire NFL. Not only did the offense get going through the air with Mike Evans going for over 100 yards but the running game did its bit too with Ronald Jones Jr going for over 110 yards. The Run D is stifling and easily one of if not the best in the league but the Pass Defense had some troubles against Justin Herbert and the Chargers last week giving up nearly 300 yards and 3 TD’s.
The Bears finally come unstuck in losing their first game of the year to the Colts on Sunday and they were awful on offense, kept to just 3 points until the Bears pulled out their 2020 trick of waking up in the 4th quarter but it was too little too late as Indy held on for a comfortable win but at least the Defense keep up their end of the bargain and again looked like one of the best units in football especially against the pass holding Philip Rivers and the Colts to under 200 yards and through four games this year are yet to let up a 300-yard passer which is pretty impressive when you consider they’ve faced Matt Stafford and Matt Ryan already.
There is no way I’m taking the Bears to win this one, I think they’re the worst 3-1 team in football and their offense is genuinely one of the worst in the league and in my opinion is in better (although still crappy) hands with Mitch Trubisky instead of Nick Foles but either way, it’s not good whilst the Bucs are getting better and better every week that Brady has control of the offense and that should worry the Bears because it doesn’t matter how good your pass D is if you can’t move the ball on offense and you can’t keep your defense off the field eventually they’re going to not only bend but break and sooner or later that’s going to happen to the Bears.
The Bears have given up a TD to a Tight End in 3 of their 4 games this year and the one game they did not give up a score the TE was the leading receiver against them so it’s apparent the small chink in their Pass Defense is against the big bodied guys and not many come as big bodied as Gronk. The former Patriot has been used mainly in a in-line blocking role so far with the Bucs but the injury of pass catching Tight End, OJ Howard should increase his target share and I like the Bears, a team Gronk has scored 4 times against in 2 career games, to be the team he scores his fist TD as a Buccaneer against.
