Two teams with mixed fortunes in Week 1 meet in the Windy City as the winless Bears host the 1-0 Bengals. Will Burrow’s boys make it to 2-0 or will we be all square at .500 come game end?
The Bears got outclassed in a SNF clash with the LA Rams to open up their season. Andy Dalton started the game at QB and will be the starter against his former team on Sunday, but will surely be feeling the heat from rookie Justin Fields, who relieved Dalton on a few snaps in Week 1 and found himself in paydirt. The Bears fans made their feelings heard by chanting the rookies name regularly during the preseason and again on Sunday night, you feel like Matt Nagy won’t have much choice but to pull the veteran Dalton if things don’t tick on offense against Cincinnati.
Joe Burrow looked every inch the face of the franchise for the Bengals in their OT win over the Vikings in Week 1. The narrative was that he might not be the same player after suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2020, but if that’s the case, someone should’ve told Burrow! Ja’Marr Chase has an NFL debut to remember as he went for over 100 yards and a TD. The former LSU teammate of Burrow clearly has his QB’s trust as he led a talented WR trio in targets, receptions & yards. This is something I can see happening regularly, Chase is a prototypical WR1 and with his familiarity with Burrow and the QBs apparent input in he being selected early in the NFL Draft, ahead of much needed O-Line help you feel like there might be a little extra emphasis to get #1 the football, and there should be this week against a Bears defense that ranked dead last in PFF’s coverage against receivers defensive metric after Week 1.
From a betting perspective, I feel like the bookmakers have a lot of the markets about right in this one, but there looks to be value with the aforementioned Chase. His O/U receiving yards number is set at 56.5 yards, a number he was closer to double than in Week 1, and after seeing the Bears inability to cover, I wouldn’t be surprised with another 100+ yards receiving for the rookie stud.
