MIAMI DOLPHINS @ NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS.

It’s a new era in Foxboro with Cam Newton replacing TB12 under centre and I’m excited to see how Belichick gets to using a big, strong, mobile QB. I personally fully expect Bill to run Newton into the ground this year and really pound the rock all year partly because we all know Belichick loves old school Football and secondly because who is Cam going to throw the ball too? Outside of Julian Edelman it’s murky, two rookie TE’s and two outside receivers who have really done nothing in this league before. On defense and the Patriots have been ravaged by Free Agency losses and COVID-19 opt outs from that vaunted defense last year, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins, Danny Shelton and Duron Harmon are all playing their Football elsewhere this year whilst Dont’a Hightower and Patrick Chung have opted out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns. The additions of Safety, Kyle Duggar and Linebacker, Josh Uche are good ones and will help a defense who have lost big names and important players, I cant see a Bill Belichick defense being bad but I think this side of the ball takes a step back from what it has been in recent years.

The Miami Dolphins have had a great offseason by anybody’s standards, big FA acquisitions such as Byron Jones who the Dolphins made the highest Cornerback in Football until the Bills paid Tre White about a week ago, at the time incumbent CB #1 Xavien Howard was the highest paid Corner in Football so expect a lot from the outside corner duo of Jones and Howard, they also managed to snag away Kyle Van Noy from the Patriots who’s familiarity with Brian Flores’ Defense (Flores was defensive play caller in New England prior to landing the Dolphins job) and his importance to the Patriots made it a very important signing. As well as all this FA action the Dolphins had THREE(!) 1st round draft selections heading into the 2020 NFL Draft and with the first of those picked Alabama Quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa who if not for injury concerns could’ve gone #1 or #2 overall instead falling to the grateful Dolphins at the 5th pick. This is a team who should be improved everywhere and can expect a much better season than they one they had last year.

Let me be straight with you, I want to pick the Dolphins in an upset here and I want to take them ATS (+8) they have the better roster, they have good coaching and a familiarity with what the Patriots like to do, they have two WR’s in Davante Parker and Preston Williams who can cause the Patriots problem but I absolutely am not going to be the guy who predicts the Miami Dolphins to walk into Bill Belichick’s house and leave with a W in the first game of the year. I just can’t. Give me the Patriots in a low scorer.
