Week 3 of the NFL season kicks off tonight in Florida as the 0-2 Miami Dolphins travel in state to the 1-1 Jags. Both teams lost in week 2 but can the Dolphins move a step closer to .500 or will Jacksonville end week three with a winning record at 2-1.

Let’s start with the travelling Dolphins who were unfortunate to run into a man possessed in Josh Allen on Sunday as he put the Buffalo team on his back throwing for over 400 yards, 4 TD’s and 0 INT’s, I doubt we see that sort of offensive firepower from the Jags so hopefully we finally see some of this touted Miami secondary turn up here. On offense Miami got going against a strong Buffalo defense, Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing for over 300 yards and 2 TD’s against a top tier secondary is impressive as is Tight End, Mike Gesicki’s week 2 stat line, 8 catches for 130 yards and a score, if both post similar numbers tonight I’d expect Miami to pick up their first W of the season.

The Jags lost a close divisional game against the Titans on Sunday in a game where Gardner Minshew uncharacteristically turned the ball over twice, part of Minshew’s success has been his ability to keep the ball out of harms way, if what we saw against Tennessee becomes the norm for him then the air might deflate from ‘Minshew Mania’ but with DJ Chark and Laviska Shenault the Jags have offensive playmakers, the latter in particular has been lining up out wide and in the backfield and is looking to be a real versatile tool, Miami will have to be on high alert when either of those guys are targeted tonight. On defense it’s still the Myles Jack and CJ Henderson show although K’Lavon Chaisson who I was high on coming out of the draft played well against the Titans on Sunday and I’m looking forward to seeing him tonight. Miami don’t have much of a running game to speak off but with the aforementioned Gesicki and Wide Receiver tandem DeVante Parker and Preston Williams there’s plenty to keep CJ Henderson and the Jags secondary busy tonight.

This really is a pick ‘em game in my opinion and whenever I’m trying to pick a winner in these types of games I look at 3 things, number 1 is who has home field advantage which is the Jags. Number 2 is which coaching staff do I trust more, Doug Marrone vs Brian Flores? Advantage Flores and so number 3 in this case is the decider and it’s which QB I have more trust in and it’s close, Fitzpatrick has always been inconsistent, he’s already proven that hasn’t changed with his performances this year vs the Patriots where he threw 3 INT’s and then against the Bills where he went over 300, 2 TD’s and 0 picks. Minshew usually looks after the ball and has playmaking ability and with Fitzpatrick’s penchant for being inconsistent from week to week I’m going to take Minshew and the Jags to win the battle of Florida on TNF.
