The only matchup featuring two winless teams in week 3 is happening in Philly and the Eagles are desperate to finally get off the blocks and get their NFC East title defence up and running, the issue with this is that right now they suck! Carson Wentz has been awful for two weeks and although I gave him the benefit of the doubt against Washington where he was under fire all day from that fearsome defensive line but against the Rams he wasn’t Sacked once and still looked awful throwing for under 250 yards, 0 TD’s, 2 INT’s and a QBR of 60.9, in fact if it wasn’t for Miles Sanders the offense wouldn’t have been able to anything against the Rams and I expect Sanders to have a day here too against a below average Bengal run defense but I don’t know if that’ll be enough as the Eagles defense has been just as bad as the offense! Seemingly unable to stop the pass or the run through two weeks and if they can’t stop the pass in this one, they’re going to be in trouble.
The Bengals have started the season 0-2 but there is reason for optimism with the way their new passer Joe Burrow has acclimatized to the NFL and that both of their losses have been In close 1 score games and were a missed FG away from taking the Chargers to OT, the same Chargers who gave the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs all they could handle last week. Burrow attempted a ridiculous 61 pass attempts on TNF against the Browns which goes to show how much Zac Taylor and the Bengals trust the rookie and from what I’ve seen I can understand why. On defense its not great but the pass D is at least improving somewhat but they’re being gashed on the ground and will have to find a way to keep Miles Sanders in check if they want to win this one.
I’m a little confused by all the love the Eagles are getting in this matchup to be honest, I’ve not seen one “expert” back the Bengals and the 4.5 point spread in the Eagles favour just seems like a lot for me when we’re talking about two winless teams. Miles Sanders ability scares me but in a game with two bad D’s I’m going to take the offense and QB I trust more and that’s Joe Burrow and the Bengals.
As far as Best Bet’s go it was tempting to take the Bengals outright and I don’t dislike that bet at its current value (7/4) but I really like Miles Sanders to find the endzone up against the poor Bengal run D and a bet I like for some value is AJ Green to score a TD, he’s been targeted plenty through two weeks without much production outside of a TD pass caught against the Chargers which was pulled back for OPI but if the target volume persists it’ll only be a matter of time before that turns into points and Green has a 100% TD/GAME record against the Eagles albeit a 1 game sample size.
