How about the Raiders shocking the Football world on Monday night beating the fancied Saints at the opening game of the new Allegiant Stadium. Their offense is really rolling through two weeks and is the reason they’re 2-0, Darren Waller is their main target in the receiving game and the big Tight End really did a number on the Saints last week going for over 100 yards and a score and lead the team in receptions for the second straight week but what stuck out to me was how often they’re trying to get the ball in Josh Jacobs hands, he touched the ball 29 times in week 1 and 30 times in week 2 as he becomes more of a feature in the passing game, a huge loss will be rookie Henry Ruggs who is OUT injured for this one, his speed keeps the defense honest and even when he’s not getting the ball he helps the offense by forcing the opposition to keep a man deep. On defense it’s not so pretty and as of yet haven’t found a way to stop their oppositions lead back from scoring multiple TD’s and this is a real problem when your opponents lead back also happens to be their Quarterback…
Cam Newton is ballin’! He was the best player on the field in the Patriots week 1 win over Miami and looked back to his old self in the narrow week 2 loss to the Seahawks not only scoring two rushing TD’s but also throwing for nearly 400 yards and if not for a very clever defensive transition from the Seahawks he would’ve had a hattrick and the Patriots would still be unbeaten. Julian Edelman had a career day against the Seahawks posting nearly 180 yards! Many including myself thought he would struggle without Tom Brady under centre but he’s showing his class and leading this group of Patriot pass catchers. The defense struggled against the high powered Seahawks as Russell Wilson found his pass catchers often and DK Metcalf in particular was very impressive taking 4 receptions for 92 yards and a score and quite honestly giving current DPOY Stephon Gilmore a torrid time of it, the Raiders have their own mismatch threat in Darren Waller but without Ruggs to take coverage away he may find himself blanketed by whichever corner lines up across from Gilmore and the Safety which allows Gilmore to completely take away Bryan Edwards on the other side so If the Raiders are going to have success here I think they’ll need Josh Jacobs to have himself a day.
I honestly believe that Henry Ruggs is a huge loss for this offense here as I’m sure Jon Gruden would’ve had something planned to use Ruggs’ speed to test the rules of the Patriots defense and when I couple that loss with the Raiders inability to plug the run and Cam’s ability as a ball carrier I cant see past a home win here. In terms of Best Bet I love Cam Newton anytime TD here, he has two rushing TD’s in both games so far this season and 2 rush TD’s in 2 career games vs the Raiders and the Raiders have given 2 TD’s to both of their opponents lead Running Backs through the first two weeks… I like this bet so much that it’s my first BANKER of the season.
