The delayed Week 5 matchup takes place here in week 6 and no one loses out because of that more than the Broncos! I’m their week 5 tilt they were facing a Cam Newton and Stephon Gilmore-less Patriot side coming off a loss whilst they were hot off a TNF win which had given them the long week to prepare for the Patriots and their best player on Offense so far this year, Melvin Gordon was available flip it a week and both teams are coming off bye weeks and whilst the Patriots get back their QB and lock down Corner the Broncos lose Melvin Gordon to an “illness” which apparently isn’t COVID-19. Its always the Patriots catching breaks huh…
Some positive news for the Broncos is that Drew Lock might be healthy enough to start and although Brett Rypien won a game in his absence it was against the winless Jets and he managed to throw 3 INT’s and that just will not fly against the Patriots. Missing their number one guys at WR, RB and TE is tough but the rookie Jerry Jeudy at least offers them a pass catching weapon and Phillip Lindsay has the ability to have special days on the ground. The Defense is, like the Offense, weakened through injuries but under Vic Fangio it’s still a respectable unit against both the pass and the run.
The Patriots will test that Bronco run D especially with Cam Newton back in the side and they garner the 2nd most yards on the ground in the NFL so I expect them to have success running the ball, the only issue from a betting perspective is figuring out who’s going to have the hot hand for the game as it’s a real committee approach in New England. The Defense is an impressive unit and really gave the Chiefs issues in Week 4 and should be able to keep this beat up Denver Offense in check.
