Someone’s “0” has to go! No, we don’t mean these two sides who have done a lot more losing than winning this season instead we’re talking about both QB’s records against the franchises they’re up against, Matt Stafford is a perfect 4-0 against Washington whilst Alex Smith can go 1 better and boast a 5-0 career record vs Detroit. So, who’s “0” is gonna go?
Detroit are fresh off being run all over by the Minnesota Dalvin Cooks and find themselves 3-5 and once again at the bottom of the NFC North. Matt Stafford struggled last week but he did miss a week of practice due to COVID-19 regulations so I’m inclined to give him a pass but worryingly for the Lions is the absence of Kenny Golladay, their number one receiver is such an important part of the offense that it just doesn’t seem to function properly in his absence so much so that the Lions are winless when he’s not been on the field this season.
Washington put down another close one to the Giants last week, they’ve lost twice to their divisional rivals this season by a combined score of 4 points and we’re in possession of the football driving for a game winning score when Alex Smith threw his third INT of the game to hand the Giants the win. The Washington Defense is one of the better units in the league at getting to the passer and and against the pass game although that is slightly skewed by the fact most teams choose to run on them as they’re not so hot stopping guys on the ground. Somehow Washington find themselves 2nd in the NFC East and would be in first place if they’d found a way to turn those close losses to the Giants into wins, can Alex Smith, starting his first game since his horrendous injury nearly two years ago push Washington to a win here and a fight for their division?
This is another close game, I wouldn’t be surprised if either side pulled off a win but I’m going with the feel good story everyone except Lions fans are rooting for and Alex Smith to get a win on his return as a starter. As for my best bet we’re again dipping our toe into the “Anytime TD” market and with TJ Hockenson already having 5 TD’s to his name this season and Washington seemingly struggling to keep TE’s out of the End Zone this year having already given up 6 TD’s to the position we’re going to take the 2nd year stud to find pay dirt again in this one.
PREDICTION: WASHINGTON 24 – 21 LIONS
BEST BET: TJ Hockenson anytime TD – 7/4 with BET365. 1 point bet.
