Is the Taysom Hill era here?! The offensive weapon who’s been used as a Running Back, Tight End, Punt Blocker and more finally gets the chance to start in his preferred position of QB for the Saints seemingly beating out Jameis Winston during the week to win the starting job in Drew Brees absence. (Although I wouldn’t be surprised if the Saints named Hill the starter as he’ll be taking the first snap under centre to then roll out Winston for most of the game, this would be to have the Falcons preparing all week for run first “wildcat” type QB to then be forced into stopping a pocket passing deep shot taking one instead but that’s just e and my conspiracy theories!)
New Orleans have looked like arguably the best team in the NFC since coming back from their bye week and have won 6 in a row to move to an impressive 7-2 after starting the season 1-2 through the first three weeks and possess the only non QB who can throw his name into the MVP hat in Alvin Kamara who has easily been the most valuable player on this Saints side and really put the team on his back during the absence of Michael Thomas and has 9 TD’s on the year acting as both runner and receiver and no doubt he’ll be used a lot today against an Atlanta side who struggle against the pass and if we do see Taysom Hill under centre for most of the game then I’d expect the short passing game to be the majority of his throws and there’s no one better catching the ball out the backfield than Alvin Kamara right now.
The Falcons have been a much better football team under Raheem Morris than they were under Dan Quinn but their defense still isn’t what you’d call good and I suspect they’ll need one of their better offensive outputs if they’re going to pull off an upset in New Orleans today and they certainly have the firepower for it, Atlanta have the second most passing yards per game in football and although a lot of that is because they’re chasing games more often than not they do possess one of the best passing offenses in football and a big part of that is the WR duo of Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley with the latter in particular being extremely impressive this season and is on track for a career season.
I’m apprehensively going to take the Saints here, with their improving Defense and an Offense which is less reliant on Drew Brees than their playmakers ability to make things happen after the catch I’ll take them to beat the Falcons in a close one but if the Falcons Offense gets hot early then all bets are off on the winner here!
