Two NFC teams coming off a loss in Week 4 meet in Charlotte as the 3-1 Panthers welcome the 1-3 Eagles.
Carolina responded to their first loss of the year to Dallas in Week 4 by going and trading for former DPOY Stephon Gilmore. The veteran corner will help strengthen an already strong defensive unit. If he can re-discover the form that made him the best player on the field during New England’s last Super Bowl triumph, he’ll be a hell of a steal and potentially propel the Panthers to contender status.
Philly pushed Kansas City pretty hard for most of their Week 4 clash, but ultimately Patrick Mahomes is inevitable, and his arm willed the Chiefs to what was, in the end, a comfortable win on the scoresheet. Jalen Hurts has got some stick recently, and I am kind of struggling to see why. The second-year QB has impressed me with his dual-threat ability and willingness to throw the ball deep on occasion. His back-to-back 300+ passing yard games are impressive but I think more importantly if the Eagles are going to win this game is his ability to make plays on the ground. Hurts has 7 or more carries in each game this year and interestingly had season highs in rushing attempts and yards in the only game against a top half of the NFL defense when they went up against the Niners in Week 2. His U/O 7.5 rushing attempts is a lower total than I was expecting, if only slightly, and I’m going to take the over here in a game Hurts will need to make plays in if the Eagles are going to pull off an upset. I’m also going back to the Alex Singleton well, the linebacker has 8 or more combined tackles & assists in all 4 games so far this season and his 8 T&A game (His lowest of the year) came in Week 1 with only 60% of the defensive snaps played, he’s played no fewer than 74% since then and I don’t expect that to regress considering his production so far, which makes his U/O 8.5 Tackles & Assists line a tasty over bet for me.
